Aim Higher

2012 WSU Traumatic Brain Injury Workshop
Dec. 7th, 2012,
Wayne State University, Detroit, MI

The Workshop:
The driving force for this year’s workshop is the submission of a consortium pre-application to DOD. This consortium proposal covered the large spectrum of TBI research and revealed many multidisciplinary projects which address the basic mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of TBI. Therefore, this workshop will consist of five sessions covering the following themes in TBI research: 1) Basic Mechanisms of TBI, 2) BLAST TBI, and 3) Concussion TBI, 4) Imaging TBI and 5) the Clinical Aspects of TBI. Sessions will have an expected mean duration of one hour each, three in the morning and two in the afternoon with a 15-minute coffee break in between. Closing comments should focus on initiating many grant proposals which will involve distinguished faculty from different disciplines and solidify ongoing communications between groups. The Students' Poster Presentation:
This year, all the students who are involved in TBI research are highly encouraged to prepare and present their work (as a poster) to the reviewing committee, to faculty members and other students. We highly recommend all faculty to encourage their students to get involved as this activity will serve as a rehearsal for national and international poster presentations and will help spread the word about the ongoing TBI projects at WSU. Before lunch break, the reviewing committee will be circulating to assess the posters and get more informed about the students' projects. The students are expected to give a brief overview to the committee during the tour). At the end of the workshop, first and second prize will be awarded to the best posters. The deadline for receipt of poster titles is November 30, 2012, but the earlier we receive this information the better. This will help estimate the total number of posters and plan the exhibition area accordingly. Every participating student is required to bring his/her poster (Standard 3' x 3' posters are acceptable) at 8:00 am on the presentation day for set up purposes. During the poster presentation tour, please make sure to be next to your posters; the committee will disregard any unattended poster!

Also submit an electronic version of your poster to chabib@med.wayne.edu , as this will be uploaded to the workshop website for future reference. Please include the title, authors (indicating attending author) and author affiliations. Should you have any questions, please contact our workshop coordinator Mr. Charbel Habib.
